The Search for Terrestrial Intelligence, ' comprised of four intelligent Grand Island High School males. The knowledgeable fearsome foursome walked away from the fourth annual Grand Island Corp or at c Bowl last Wednesday as champions following their grueling 200--155 victory over the Pm Pals, in what proved to be one of the closest and intense finals in the bowl's four-year history.The championship round, which pitted Christian Dommel (grade II), Drew Armusewicz (grade 11), Scott; McMic ha c 1: (grade 12) and; Carey: Marrinan" (grade 11) of The Search for Terrestrials Intelligence: against Sally Head (grade 3 12), Michelle Kalisz (grade 12), Laura Fik (grade 12) and Andy Boron (grade 10) of the Pin Pals, saw the lead change more times than Madonna's hair style over the past 12 years. At the conclusion of the first round of the championship match, the Pin Pals had an impressive lead, but by the end of.the second round, The Search for Terrestrial Intelligence took command of the score board. At the end of the final round, attendees were left guessing as to who the victors were, as each team continued to trade correct answers with one another. The participants were swarmed with a wide variety of questions, ranging anywhere from history to languages to sports and music and numerous other topics. All that the evening needed was Alex Trebec, and the Grand Island High School Cafeteria could have been mistaken for the "Junior Jeopardy" set. Before these two titans battled in the championship round, earlier in the night they had to face! their semi-final opponents,! Ewh'o were equally as* ; hungry to walk awayi ; with the title. The Search fori ■Terrestrial- Intelligence tangled ■with Caucasia while the Pin Pals locked up .against the Warning iCommandos. '■ Caucasia is made up of jfour seniors which pnclude Joe jPasqualichio, Tristan Wilkinson, Jeff Sipos and {Phil Lee. The Warning Commandos ros-J ter boasts twol juniors - Bradford| Anton Namaste'f and Pat McCarthy! and two seniors -j Kevin Rader andj Cory Bota. | The four afore-1 mentioned teams j advanced to the| final four follow- S ing their prelimi-j nary round victo-f ries the previous! week. Preliminary Round Before a champion was crowned, the road to the finals started with 12 teams. Forty-eight high school students officially gathered in the cafeteria with hopes of becoming this year's champs. Here is a close look at the.eight other teams: The Vermicidos Flying Monkeys (Rob Kujawa, Nick Hahn, Lauren Merge! and Dawn Drozdowski), Fantastic Four (Brian Choi, Justin Helman, Rob Sugar and James Poupalos), Good Enough (Erin Dent, Balbir Singh, Meher Singh and Sigrid Maerz), The Oviposters (Corinne Razem, Becky Schaber, Cynthia -Czapla and Margaret N Keil), Xtreme (Bryan Mesmer, Tierney Smith, Chris Monaco and Rusty Burchfield), SLC2 (Stephanie Goris, Allison Siehnel, Kate Mitchell and Robyn Kama), Loquacious Yaks (Anna Quider, David Blonski, Neil Reddien and Danielle Henry) and The Knights Who Say Ni (Malcolm Merriweather, Caren Bartoz. Lisa Otto and Richard Coe). h. All of the students that particifpatedpated in the event .'received gifts :thanks to the corporate sponsors .while the top three teams received scholarships in various amounts. Making It All „ Possible The Fourth Annual Grand Island Corporate Bowl was made possible and brought to the students by American Pharmaceutical Partners Inc., Fujisawa Healthcare Inc. and . Invitrogen Life Technologies. There were numerous others who played a key role in making this year's event yet another success.
