Upon entering, two agendas were sitting on a desk -the re-organizational and the regular business meeting agendas. Upon perusing through both agendas, it appeared the board would be hosting a very uncommon marathon meeting, but that was not true. It took only a tad longer than one hour for the board to cover all the items. The biggest news coming out of the re-organizational meeting was. the approval of a new board president and vice president. Former president Richard McCowan nominated Jeri Schopp for the president position. The motion received a second from Frank DeSignore.. The board unanimously approved the move. That was followed by newly sworn in board member Lee Cohen nominating David Goris as board vice president. That motion received a second from Mryna Blair. Beyond the aforementioned, the rest of the meeting proceeded in a normal fashion. Other appointments were made, the Island Dispatch and the Buffalo News were designated as the official paper of the school district, a petty cash fund .was estaWishgdr.aridJ.he mileage reimbursement rate was set at 36.5 cents per mile. After] mulling over the many logos that were submitted, the sesquicentennial choose its official logo in late spring of 2001. For the past year the logo has appeared in the newspaper, on the news, on the Internet, on banners hanging all across the Island, on news releases, on merchandise, and probably numerous other places we are all unaware of. When the winning logo was selected, the individual who designed it was recognized, but since then we have heard little from or about the Island student who created what is now known as the official sesquicentennial logo. Now introducing Rob Hopkins, 17, a Grand Island High School senior to be in 2002-03, the young man behind the logo. Hopkins started working on the logo during his sophomore year at the high school. According to him, he was working on it as part of class project. At that time, little did Hopkins know a simple two-week class project would grow into something so big.' When he was informed he could enter the logo into the project, it was then he knew-- bigger things could be right around the corner. When asked what he thought his chances were iof winning the contest, Hopkins told the Dispatch "very good." Bob Hopkins, 17, shows of his artwork. Hopkins sesquicentennial logo was chosen as the official logo for Grand Island's sesquicentennial year. And he could not have been anymore correct. Now he gets to sit back and take pride in his work. continued on page 2 igp continued on page 2 US' MARTY'S TOWING, INC.
