Inside, the atmosphere was cool and calm. The town board met in front of a small crowd, and quickly addressed the majority of the items by either approving or tabling various resolutions. The meeting started with three public hearings - the Majestic Woods Subdivision, the Park Place Subdivision Phase HI and the New York State Retirement Incentive Program. None of the attendees spoke in favor or against any of the public hearing agenda items. The Majestic Woods final plat approval hearing was eventually tabled by the town board members. According to Town Supervisor Peter McMahon, it was tabled because they (board members) have not worked out the language for conservation easements. The board them approved the Park Place Subdivision final plat approval and adopted the NYS Retirement Incentive Program as local law #1 of 2002. Consent Agenda The consent agenda, much like the crowd that gathered for the meeting, was rather small. A few of the consent agenda items were the building permits for June of 2002, minutes of the Board of Architectural Review and Planning Board meetings, Golden Age Center usage of vehicles and facilities for June, and the animal control statistics for May and June. The animal control statistics are as follows: May -118 general complaints, 53 letters of delinquency, 28 wildlife complaints, five bite/attack of dogs with investigations, and four investigations assist Erie County Health Department. From now until the end of July, Grand Island residents are urged to send a SASE or stop by the Grand Island Post Office, 2391 Baseline Road, and get a piece of history. "Most of them are collectors items," Postmaster Dennis Gawron said. "They are special and they only depict an event that happens once." Gawron explained to the Dispatch, that each cancellation pictorial represents a different era in Grand Island history. Gawron and post office employee Nancy Kanavel made this can'tmiss offer available on the morning of the Fourth of July. The post office truck was set up outside of Tops Grand Island, but not many residents took advantage of the opportunity. "We've had cancellationYequests from Germany, France, Spain, and Canada," Gawron said. "The Postmaster Dennis Gawron and post office employee Nancy Kanavel were at Tops Grand Island on the morning otthe Fourth of July offering six limited-time sesquicentennial cancellation stampings and four commemorative envelopes. The envelopes were put together by the sesquicentennial committee, and the post office is helping sell the item. continued on page 2 continued on page 2 XSP MAiw'S TOWING, SMC, T"IRL IE sT~" NTS INSPECTION • AUTO REMUS •' BRAND NAMB TIMS • BATTSRI6S 24 hr.
