Grand Island Chamber of j Commerce is hosting a for-j mal dinner dance on! Thursday, Sept. 28 at ilv Grand Island Holiday inn Resort and Confererue Center. From the onset, this c. l r.i has been billed as i!u-granddaddy of 'em all, ..i.d now it is less than a month away. The night will begin at 5 p.m. with a champagne reception and press conference held in the Media Room. Or if that is not your cup of tea, attendees can enjoy a beautiful one-hour cruise aboard the Grand Lady compliments of Captain Rick Deegan. The 80-foot long yacht-style luxury cruise vessel, which is entering its fifth season of operation, is always a pleasure to be aboard. The Grand Lady's unique features include wrap-around windows, hardwood paneling and a luxurious decor. Accommodations are available on two levels with the capacity of 90 for dining and 115 for receptions. Deegan credits its success on the vessel's continued relationship with the Holiday Inn Resort and Conference Center. As the one-hour cruise and cham- pagne reception draws to an end, cocktails & hors d'oeuvres will be served at 6 p.m. on silver trays in the Riverview Room. Enjoy baby new potatoes with creme fraiche and caviar, chicken saute with Thai peanut sauce, mini phyllo tarts with sun dried tomato and calamata olives, asparagus popovers with hollandaise sauce, and other delights as you listen to a wonderful jazz trio. Then comes the best part - dinner. Special effects and spectacular lighting provided by Jackson Music will take your breath away as you enter the Grand Ballroom for dinner. Carolynn Graser of Graser's Florist has designed beautiful decorations and stunning floral arrangements especially for the ball. Holiday Inn Food and Beverage Director Jeffrey Miller, whose culinary talent has taken him all over the world as the corporate chef for Mmc" NASCAR, Rolling Stones, U2, Joe Cocker and others, has put a fabulous menu together. Planned for the evening are cream of carrot and sweet potato soup with salad, poached salmon with baby field greens and cucumber dill sauce, a dual entree of seared filet mignon with sauce bearnaise and chicken franchise with artichoke cream served with baby vegetables, truffeled celeriac, and Yukon gold duchette potatoes. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir will be poured during dinner.Hold on though. Attendees are going to want to make sure they save room in their tummies for dessert. Dessert will be a premium pastry display to include tortes, flans, mousses, and bombes, fresh fruit and berries with chocolate fondue along with a fancy coffee station of flavored creamers, whipped cream, cinnamon sugar and teas. After dinner, you might need to take a breather before moving around, but don't wait too long. If you are looking to work off those calories then you'll be happy to hear you can whirl around the dance floor with music by The Pyramid Dance Band, an 18-piece orchestra who has performed regularly in the Northeastern United States and Southern Ontario, Canada. The Pyramid library contains everything from ballads to bebop, rock n' roll to rumbas, chachas, fox trots, jazz, polkas, swing, tangos, waltzes and more. Holiday Inn General Manager Dan Gilliland is excited to be a part of Grand Island's 150 th birthday celebration. With almost 20 years in the hospitality industry, Gilliland knows how to throw a party and provide a memorable evening for everyone. He is eager for all to see the newly-remodeled Holiday Inn, majestically situated on the banks of the Niagara River.
