The Grand Island Town Board Monday approved the final site plan and exception to subdivision regulations for River Oaks Marine, Inc., developers of what has been hailed as "a new concept in marine design." Marina President Timothy J. House said boaters at River Oaks will be the "ultimate winners." By purchasing shares in the Cooperative Corporation, a boater puts a cap on rising slip costs while always having the option to recapture his or her investment. House explained that boaters will be able to buy stock in the River Oaks Marine Association in the form of a 99 year lease which will provide the use of a slip and other amenities available on the 16.9 acre site. The Island stands to collect $50,000 for recreational purposes in lieu of park land or open space, town officials were assured. Payment will be made on or about June 1, 1989 out of proceeds from the sale of shares in the cooperative corporation. The multi million dollar marina will be what is popularly known as a dockominium plan, operating much like condominium projects, House said.
