Woolson Four fifth grade students in Susan LaTona's class at Kaegebein Elementary School took a writing assignment to another level this past spring. After writing a letter to their principal saying they thought a comic ; book club would be a fun afterschool activity, they got their wish. And in the process, they sold their comic books, "Comics for Kids," at the Barnes and Noble Bookstore in Amherst last week. The entire sale of the comic books benefited Meaghan's Miracle. Barnes and Noble also donated a portion of the Grand Island residents' sales during that time to Meaghan's Miracle. Students Alex Howard, Joshua Gephart,. Patrick Thompson and Jack Pilie had been making comic book characters and decided to turn this activity into a good cause. Howard said the comics were of super heroes that each one of them created. As a group, they started brainstorming ideas to see what they could come up with. "All of the comics are different," he said. "We each made our own." Helping Out Howard said this was fun to do Comics for Kids creators Alex Howard, Joshua Gephart, Patrick Thompson and Jack Piiie take a moment during their sale at Barnes and Noble in Amherst last week to pose for a picture. . continued on page 24 BS" continued on page 24 *®° \ At a Glance I Saturday I !| Dickßessel I I Independence Day Run 1 I Tops on Grand Island Boulevard 1 1 . 9 a.m. " | I 'Parade follows; | j more information on page 3 j Saturday | VFW Post #9249 1 Open House Celebration I I 2121 Grand Island Blvd. J I After the parade J j .
