Supervisor Peter McMahon said this board was formed as a way to get people that are already involved in public safety - the public and Town Board — to get together to look at public safety issues on the Island. "A big issue today is homeland security," McMahon said. He said that there is a comprehensive plan which has requirements to include a cross section of people from the community so that should something tragic happen, everyone can help one way or another and take care of those who are critically injured. "This is hopefully to get the public more engaged so that they can take care of themselves is something happens," McMahon said. "This will hopefully teach people to take care of themselves should they have minor injuries while those who are most critically injured are tended to by emergency personnel."At-RiskPlan McMahon said with the Public Safety Advisory Boards they will begin with developing an at-risk plan.
