Woolson The Grand Island Town Board has approved a reorganization plan for the Community Enrichment Council at Monday night's session. Councilman Gary Roesch said this council serves only as an advisory group to the school district and to the town. Previously there was only a small number of members of this group. But now there are 14 members of the council which held its first meeting with the additional participants last night. The council is made up of representatives from the Town Board, GIFTS program, Youth Advisory Board, Youth Court, Recreation and Parks Department, the Grand Island School District's Superintendent's office, a Grand Island Board of Education member, PTA Council and the ministry on the Island. Roesch explained the reorganization was done to expand the council and bring more people to the table to discuss issues that affect the Island community. He said the Council networks to come up with ideas and suggestions that would be for the betterment of the community and the different groups that are represented. Roesch said that when one group may be trying to come up with ideas to address the asset program, another who is not affiliated with the group may have an idea that could work as well. He added this council serves as the advisory board of the Enrichment and Referral Center, meeting with coordinators to review the work of the center and making policy recommendations to the coordinators and to the Town Board. All decisions regarding funding are the responsibility of the Town Board. "We are looking at Williamsville and Amherst and using them as a guide to get everything in place," said Roesch. "We plan to come up with a new mission statement at our first meeting."
