Daly To Meet With Islanders SENATOR John B. Daly has scheduled 10 A.M., July 27 as the date when he will meet with Islanders in the town hall as part of his annual tour of the 61st Senatorial District of which Grand Island is a part. "I visit each community in my district to meet with my constituents. The public input I gain from each personal discussion is vital," he said in announcing his schedule. Senator Daly also announced he will seek a seventh term in the office he has held for 12 years after spending six years in the State Assembly. MEK Citizens For Safety Organize On East River SAFETY is the reason behind the organization of a citizens group by residents living near the S-curve on East River Road, said group spokesman Lawrence Kawalerski."Citizens for Safety" recently formed in opposition to a proposed county road which would exit the Waterford Estates at the 900 block of East River Road. East River is a two lane road which forms an S-shaped curve at the proposed road exit. Mr. Kawalerski said that East River Road already carriescarries a tremendous amount of traffic, and the proposed road from the Waterford development would only add to the problem. In the past, there has been uncounted numbers of accidents at the S-curve which resulted in bodily injury, as well as property damage, Kawalerski said. He said sight distance is poor due to the fact that the area is heavily treed. Anyone interested in supporting the citizens group can contact Mr. Kawalerski at 773-5668. FTZ Legislation To Help Develop Isle Site THE ERIE County Legislature last week passed a resolution which will allow the county executive to contract with and submit applications to the US Department of Commerce Foreign Trade Board on behalf of the Grand Island Economic Development Corporation. The reasoning behind this resolution is to increase the development of Foreign Trade Zone 23, located on the Island. This resolution expands on a 1983 resolution passed by the legislature which allowed for the development of a foreign trade zone on the Island. At that time, the Grand Island Economic Development Corporation was designated as the zone's agent to administer and operate the sight. The foreign trade zone was set up for the manufacturing and exposition of consumer products, and for other light industries.Weather THE OLD Farmer's Almanac says: July 13: thunderstorms, cool.
