Time is of the essence as a substantial amount of money must be raised by Sept. 1 in order to rescind the congregation's vote to demolish the landmark. See page two for details. r ° PmmU, by B«rW Uf» Town Appeals For More Thruway Exits ADDITIONAL Thruway exit ramps on to Grand Island are being sought by the town to help alleviate traffic at and between the bridges. The town board Monday, in a resolution presented by Councilwoman Marion P. Fabiano, requested the Thruway Authority and State Department of Transportation to "investigate immediately the feasibility of an exit ramp onto Stony Point Road at the south bridge and two onto Bedell Road. Continuing residential development and the expansion of the industrial area and Foreign Trade Zone were pointed out as reasons for increased traffic problems between the bridges. Copies of the resolution will be sent to the Authority, DOT and Regional Engineer Leonard DiPrima. DiPrima has been meeting monthly with the Grand Island Citizens Bridge Advisory Committee. MEK Games For The Physically Challenged At Beaver Isle ANEW AND exciting program has been added to the recreation calendar at Beaver Island State Park this summer.A special training and participation workshop has been scheduled for Physically Challenged Youth in the area, from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M., Wednesday, August 1. Potential athletes, between 5 and 21 years old and challenged by being visually impaired, hearing impaired, spinal cord injured, an amputee, have Cerebral Palsy or Les Autres (muscular dystrophy, dwarfism, arthritis. asthma, etc.), are invited to attend.The program is free (pre-registration is encouraged). Scheduled events include slalom, field and track events, volleyball, crazy bocce, golf, goalball, beep baseball, tennis and basketball. Other special program elements are also planned. Lunch will be provided, courtesy of Tops Friendly Markets and Stadium Services, Inc. Participants and volunteers can register by calling the Games Office at 395-5620. Professional To Aid Land Use Planning THE TOWN board Monday agreed to solicit proposals for two basic work phases for its land use planning efforts. Councilman James Sharpe said Phase I will be "the development of a vision of the town and a report on the town's setting - both internally and externally." Phase II will involve "master plan development and implementation strategy formulation, " Sharpe said.
