Instead of a fast paced, frenetic effort to reach a finish line, Wheelmen, perched atop old fashioned big wheeled bikes, leisurely circled the Island enjoying the scenery while enhancing it at the same time. Their goal - to circle the Island five times in order to reach a century mark. For more on the Wheelmen, see Treasures, page 5. Photo by Barbi L*r» Citizens Group To Fight Commercial Bridge Tolls THROUGHOUT the past several years Erie County Legislator Charles M. Swanick has received complaints from Grand Island residents who have commercial license plates on their vehicles and are unable to purchase commuter books for the Grand Island bridge tolls. The Department of Motor Vehicles requires that all pickup trucks without a cab on the back be registered as commercial vehicles regardless of whether they are used for commercial purposes. Many residents on the Island own pickups and are not allowed to purchase commuter books due to the fact that the trucks are registered as commercial vehicles. For residents commuting off and on the Island daily, tolls become a major expense.Residents who would like to change the New York Thruway Authority's policy in commercial vehicles and help form a citizens' group on the issue are urged to contact Legislator Swanick's office at 773-1441. Jones Intercable Co-Produces Movie For Disney Channel JONES Entertainment Group, Ltd., an affiliate of Jones Intercable, and Resnick/Margellos Productions will present The Little Kidnappers in association with The Disney Channel and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. The two-hour madefor-television movie starring Charlton Heston will debut on The Disney Channel tonight (August 17) at 7 P.M. The Disney Channel Premiere film, adapted from the classical novel, The Kidnappers, by Neil Paterson, tells the moving story of two young Scottish orphans. Set in Nova Scotia at the turn of the century, the story explores the experience of two young orphan boys from Scotland who come to Canada to live with their grandparents and aunt. Additional airdates for the movie are August 23 and 27. Jones Intercable is the tenth largest cable operator in the Unites States serving 1.4 million cable subscribers.
