Pholo by BarW Lun Rezoing Requested For Another Development RIVER OAKS, Grand Island's first and only planned unit development, approved in 1970 may have a counterpart. The town board Monday agreed to review a request for rezoning R-1A property to planned unit development status to permit Frontier Developments Partnership to proceed with its plans for developing property bounded by Staley, Love, Baseline, South Parkway and the Thruway. Proposed for the area are single family detached, and attached (town-houses) housing, and office, retail, commercial, restaurant and recreation development of the acreage. "Frontier Developments Partnership and their consultantsconsultants believe the PUD to represent an excellent, well planned, viable, environmentally sensitive and compatible usage of approximately 284 acres located in such a . strategic area within the town of Grand Island," consulting engineers for the Partnership advised the town. River Oaks as a PUD announced in 1970 was hailed as a $250 million project, including an impressive theme park, golf course, housing, a commercial area and even a church and a fire station. Part of the plan was amended in 1985. Loeb-Rhodes of New York City backed the original project. Caldwell Development Corp. of Amherst were co-developers. MEK Town Clerk Rita DeGlopper To Retire RITA J. DeGlopper has announced this week she will not seek re-election in November to a fifth term for the office of Town Clerk. Rita has held this office for the past 16 years during which she has worked to bring the Town Clerk's office into the Twentieth Century. She has computerized many functions of the office thus becoming more efficient in the services to the citizens of the town. As Records Management Officer for the town, she is presently in the process of working with a grant from the state to update and inventory all the records of the town. Rita feels that the Town Clerk's Office is the "hub" of town government and noted that she worked with three supervisors and numerous town boards. Her 16 years in office gave the town a continuity much needed in the office the of Town Clerk. In announcing her retirement, Rita expressed her appreciation for the support the citizens of the Island have given her over the past years and noted that, "it was a very difficult decision to make." However, she said, her plans include traveling with her husband, Earl, who recently retired, and spending time with her family and her two small granddaughters. She noted that even though she is retiring from public office, she will be very visible around town as she pursues her many community activities. •m_■ a — m — MAIL TO:
