Office, 7:30 P.M. SERVING THE GRAND ISLAND COMMUNITY SINCE 1944 With The GRAND ISLAND NEWS GRAND ISLAND. NY (716) 773-7676 50c 24 PAGES VOL. 48 NO. 26 • Sept. 20, 1991 Town Seeks Waterfront Park A WATERFRONT park tops the list of projects the town board is requesting the Horizon Waterfront Commission to include in its plans for Grand Island. The board in a resolution Monday asked the Commission to include in it description of a proposed boat launch and marina to be established "on a 40 acre parcel of land currently leased by the Town from Niagara State Park Commission." They added that the town "would encourage the State of New York Parks and Recreation to develop a boat launch facility at the northeastern shore of Buckhorn Island Park." That is where the leased land is located. The first 20-year lease was renewed by the state after it expired several years ago. Entrance to the waterfront park property is at Long and West River Roads. In Horizon's Waterfront Commercial Development of Ferry Village, "the board would like to see it include the development of a town park on the 7.5 acre parcel at the southwest corner of East River and Cox Roads (former Offerman Estate)," the board stated in its resolution, noting it would like to regain the land for a town park through a lease Island Picks Primary Winners WINNERS in the County Primary election were also the high vote getters on Grand Island. Incumbent County Executive Dennis Gorski won over his opponent Buffalo Mayor James Griffin by 594 votes on the Island. The tally here was 894 for Gorski and 300 for Griffin, on the Democratic line. Gorski also beat his Conservative opponent Hans J. Mobus, 21-8. Family Court Judge Sharon S. Townsend (D.) also was the main choice of town primary voters. She received 689 votes while 354 were polled for her opponent, Terry McKelvey. Gorski will again face Griffin in the November general election. MEK FALL SPORTS SCHEDULES...
