Mother Nature's joke wasn't taken so well by those of us who anxiously await wanner weather. School Board Proposes 18 Staff Cuts Till administration has recommended cutting at least 18 stall positions in the 1992-93 school budget in an attempt to de;d with reduced revenues and increased costs. They include three administrative slots, two elementary enrichment teachers (thus eliminating the program), die parttime middle school dean of students position, a guidance counselor, plus a number of high school and special education positions. Some of the cuts are retirement positions that will not be filled. At the high school, due to decreased enrollment and more equitable class sizes, according lo Dr. Merlon Ilaynes, interim superintendent, the recommended cuts include .7 art, .6 home economics, a math position, two teachers on special assignment, a writing lab supervisor, a special education leaching assistant, .S social studies. There will be reductions in the number of yearbook and photography classes offered and the elimination of a music course added to meet state mandates, llie administration is also looking al the concept of levels at the high school, although no changes are being made for next year. A number of reductions in the special education area are die result of increasing (he size of classes and combining some subjects. According lo Dr. Richard McCowan, school board president, some classes had as lew as four or live pupils. Consultants Submit Master Plan Update Analysis SARATOGA Associates, in the process of completing the final phase of updating the town master plan, recently submitted a so-called "buildout analysis" of its accomplishments to date. Prepared for the Update and Review Comprehensive Plan Committee, headed by Councilman James R. Sharpe, it lists "identification of buildable areas, calculation of maximum development potential, analyses of growdi impact on key community services and of the implication of the analysis scenario on die town's planning goals and objectives." "The choice of an appropriate base map is crucial for the purposes of clearly presenting analytical information," the Company claims in its report under the heading of "methodology."
