Photo by Mary Stewart ■ Isle Business Growth Adds To Tax Base A TOTAL of $9,001,385 of assessed valuation has been added to the town tax base by companies that have located on the Island since 1987 through efforts of the Grand Island Economic & Development Corporation and advisory board, according to statistics disclosed this week. Listed are Roberts Machine Corp., Fast By Gast, Annex Corporation, ARS Service, GP-50, Inducon of Grand Island 1 and 2, Mollis Boss Agency headquarters, (he Health Care Plan building and YIP Pharmaceutical. Also to be added when completed is the assessed valuation of the three buildings now under construction by Grimm Associates on Baseline Road. The Development Corporation board of directors includes seven Chamber of Commerce members, town board members and other Island citizens who "donate time and effort and sometimes money to establish methods by which Grand Island's potential for industrial and commercial development can be enhanced," the Corporation reports. The GIEDC is a non-profit corporation formed to develop the industrial and commercial potential of the town. "To (his end, we have provided some $9 million plus of assessed valuation for the Town of Grand Island, increased business for Island businesses and sales tax revenue and, in so doing, have scarcely impacted (he school system." It has further reported, adding: "The industrial and commercial expansion of Grand Island benefits, either directly or indirectly, every resident of Grand Island." Richard E. Isle Battle Against Pipeline Gains Support THERE WAS no lack of support for Grand Island's stand against Trans-Canada Pipeline Ltd. building an underground gas line between Thorold and Chippewa at Wednesday's hearing before the Canadian National Energy Board. Held as part of the session that began Monday to re-examine the Board's earlier decision to reject the application, the hearing in Niagara Falls, Ontario was attended by Legislator Charles M. Swanick, Supervisor James H. Pax, Wheatfield Supervisor Terry Kuchn and Dave Watson of the CanAm Concerned Citizens Groups.
