The $25,448,348 budget was passed overwhelmingly by a 965-493 vote. The $2.2 million bond issue, passing by a margin of 866-589, ensures the reopening of Sidway School and renovations to be made in the Middle and Kaegebein Schools. School Board Trustee Susan Gill was the highest vote getter garnering a substantial 897. She will serve another three year term. Michael Dlugosz, who polled 748 votes, will join the school board July 1 as a newcomer. The count for incumbent Andy Lichtenthal was 652 and for Carmelo Sapone, 396. Schools Superintendent Paul Fields, commenting on the results of the vote, said, "I believe it was an indication by the taxpayers and residents that they want us to pursue the course of action in renovating and opening Sidway School, and to continue with the full day kindergarten program." Tuesday the Grand Island Democratic Committee endorsed Councilwoman Marion P. Fabiano as its candidate to oppose Supervisor James H. Pax in his bid for re-election. The committee also endorsed Pclcr McKee and incumbent councilman Paul Klock for councilmcn and Republican Highway Superintendent Norman Mrkall for re-election. Republicans endorsed by the GOP commitlec for re-election are Pax, Councilman James R. Sharpe, Highway Superintendent Mrkall, Peace Justice Eric Reimann and Mary S. Cooke for town council. This slate also has the endorsement of the Conservative Committee. Public Hearings To Air Rezoning Of Harbor Towne A PUBLIC hearing Monday will consider rezoning the location of the office-warehouse complex, Harbor Towne, at 1763 Baseline Road. Controversy arose when it was noted that the property was M-l zoned rather than B-2 required for its present use. The hearing will air reasons for and against allowing a change in classification to permit current offices to continue operating in the building as "general business". Owners of the complex. Federal Storage of Western New York, Ronald A. Grimm, have been complimented on the appearance of the property which includes landscaping highly in keeping with B-2 zoning requirements Grand Island To Parade On July 3 THE ANNUAL Independence Day Parade will be held Saturday, July 3 at 9:15 A.M. with the 2.3 mile Road Race, sponsored by Tops Markets, leading the way down Grand Island Blvd. Fntry forms for both the Road Race and Parade arc available by calling the Recreation Office at 773-9680.
