Pax in the' Republican primary have been rejected by the County. Board of Elections. Erie County agreed with 61 of Grand Island GOP Chairman Kenneth C. Arena's 65 claims, which* resulted in Reed's petition being declared invalid. The petition was found to be invalid because it was not bound as required by state law. The Election Board also reported it did not have enough signatures. Although there were 285, only 224 were valid according to law. A total of 233 is required. Public Hearing To Air Plumbing Law A PUBLIC bearing at the Grand Island Town Board meeting to be held at 8 P.M., August 16, will consider Local Law Intro. No. 3, which if approved will allow for the establishment of a seven-member Board of Plumbing Examiners. The board would consist of the building inspector, town engineer, plumbing inspector and town residents who have actively engaged in the plumbing business for at least 10 years. These residents would also hold active licenses to practice plumbing and would be elected by the general membership of the licensed Grand Island Plumbers. MEK Sledding Hill To Be Built In Veteran's Park FIFTY LOADS of 10 cubic yards of dirt have already been delivered to the town by the contractor for Niagara County Water District's water pipeline project for the building of a sledding hill at Veteran's Park. Town board members Monday approved spending up to $7,500 to hire a bulldozer to build the hill behind the Grand Island Memorial Library in Veteran's Park on Bedell Road. The hill is pan of the master plan for the park and will also be used as an outdoor amphitheater for town activities. Teachers' Contract Nears Approval THE GRAND Island Teachers Association has approved a tentative contract with the Island School District The contract was agreed upon last Friday (July 30) and will be considered Monday by the School Board. The 215-membcr union has been without a contract since last September. A proposal was rejected in March because it dealt with teachers' scheduling rather than from a financial standpoint. MEK Isle Tax Roll Open To The Public IN ACCORDANCE with the Property Tax Law, the Grand Island Assessment Roll is now on file and open for public inspection in the Town Hall. The legal notice published by Town Assessor James Milne in the July 30 issue of the Island Dispatch notes the Assessment Roll will be available for the public's view until Friday, August 13.
