Though the older students were familiar with the surroundings, some still needed direction. The slogan for the start of school was "Children First," as displayed on pins by teachers and on a large school banner. At Sidway (above), there was a line to enter the building when the "buses dropped off their riders. Many were met and accompanied by parents to their classrooms where kindergartners were gently introduced to their new surroundings. One sign seemed to sum up the philosophy of the school, This is a magic room. We're making tomorrow." Photos St caption by Barbl Lar* Get Out And Vote Tuesday REGISTERED Republicans, Democrats and Conservatives are urged to get out and vote Tuesday in the primary election for their party's candidates for governor, senator and attorney general. Governor Cuomo, seeking a fourth term, has Lenora B. Fulani as an opponent on the Democratic line. Candidates in the Republican contest for the office are State Senator George E. Pataki and Richard Rosenbaum. Republican State Senator Anthony R. Nanula, seeking reelection, is being opposed by David A. Collins, Judith P. Fisher and John E. Hemphill. Representative John J. LaFalce faces John A. Baser Jr. in the Democratic primary. Democrats will also have an opportunity of voting their choice of Senator Daniel P. Moynihan for re-election or his primary challenger the Rev. Al Sharpton. There is also a four-way Democratic contest for state attorney general. Candidates are incumbent G. Oliver Koppell, former State Senator Karen S. Burstein, Charles J. Hynes and Eliot Spitzer. Pataki and Robert G. Relph Sr. are on the Conservative line for governor and Henry F. Hewes and Bemadeue Castro vie for senator. All Grand Island polling places will be open Tuesday, Sept. 13, from 6 AM. to 9 P.M. MEK Extend Bike Path To Boulevard, Pax Recommends THE BEAVER Island Parkway bike path, to be extended from Red Jacket Road to the south Grand Island bridge, may also be continued on to Grand Island Boulevard. Supervisor James H. Pax at Tuesday's Town Board meeting recommended the $20,000 originally earmarked for the extended path, now approved for full funding by DOT, be used for the addition. This would connect our town with the Tonawandas and Buffalo bikeways now existing along the Niagara River," Pax said. "Eventually future projects such as the Buckhorn Marsh bike path at the north Grand Island bridge connecting to Grand Island Boulevard will tic our community to Niagara Falls as well." The board referred the suggestion to the bike path and sidewalk committee for study and recommendation. MEK Town Asked To Fund Chamber Division FUNDING to finance the Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Division may be included in the town's 1995 budget Chamber President Robert W. Weaver and division Chairman Robert Villain have appealed to 'own officials to consider a ontractural agreement with the organization as a line item in next year's town expenses. Noting that after 1994 "the Chamber will not fund its economic division," the chamber officials in their communication stated, "Accordingly there is a need for town action relative to the financing of the division." The Chamber of Commerce is willing to offer the office at 1763 Baseline Road for the economic development activity, the board was informed. The use of space, office equipment and telephone service will be the Chamber's contribution." Releasing $3,000 earmarked in the 1994 budget for the division's publicity fund would allow it to operate until December, the board was further advised. The board Tuesday agreed to discuss the request at a workshop meeting. MEK Tft- See today s center section
