N0. 26 Girls X-Country Team Off To Running Start This start of the girls cross country race during the 15th Annual Optimist Invitational at Beaver Island Saturday was fielded by talented harriers who placed sth overall. The season opener Sept 10 in FranklinviUe was a grand performance with the girls team taking first by tying with Bradford for top honors. Photo by Barbl Larc Certificate Of Appreciation Presented To Reality Cafe Planners At tbe beginning of the September 19, Town Board meeting, Mary E. Vincent and her W of planners were recognized for their efforts at tbe Reality Cafe, the coffee bouse for teenagers, located at the Nike Base site on Whitehaven Road. Over the last 18 months, Mrs. Vincent and her team of adults and teenagers have planned and then put into use the youth center which is open Friday and Saturday evenings. It is a place for high school youth to go where there is fellowship, music, board and table games and refreshments available. A Certificate of Appreciation was presented to Mrs. Vincent by the entire Town Board. Lara Isle Residents Can Register To Vote Here TOWN OF Grand Island residents will be given an opportunity to register to vote at the Town Clerk's office, Town Hall, 2255 Baseline Rd., during the week of OcL 3-7, from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. Monday to Thursday and 9 A.M. to 1 P.M. Friday. For more information, call Town Clerk Nancy Samrany at 773-9622. Tourist Info Booth May Move A VACANT service station at Long Road and Grand Island Boulevard near a Thruway entrance is being considered by the state park commission as the new site of the tourist information center now boused in tbe Burger King Restaurant at Grand Island Boulevard and Staley Road. The proximity of the proposed site to the Thruway and North Bridge is cited as desirable and easy to find for tourists, many of whom have complained that they are confused by the privatelyoperated information center (a sight-seeing business) across the street from the state's Burger King site. District Parks Director Mario J. Pirastru, at a meeting Wednesday, claimed that Burger King has been attracting visitor inquiries and it should be tbe other way around. In other action during tbe state park commission meeting Wednesday night, it was disclosed that a 12-year contract will be awarded for a concessionaire at Beaver Island State Park to operate the new casino, which is expected to be operational by 1997, as well as the golf course, snack bar and pro shop. Before tbe casino's destruction by fire, concessions were bandied by Stadium Services Inc., a division of Rich Products based in Buffalo.
