Klingel THE EXTENSIVE cultural and recreation project proposed in Veteran's Park on Bedell Road took a giant step forward toward the possibility of becoming a reality Tuesday at a public information meeting in Kaegebein School and a Chamber of Commerce session in the Buffalo Launch Club the same evening. The $8.7 million expansion was first announced by the initiators in the May 3 issue of the Island Dispatch. The Town Board May 6 gave its stamp of approval on continuing planning of the complex which would include an indoor skating rink, a swimming pool, soccer field and track, tennis courts, a community room and other facilities. Presentations made by Dr. Charles Radcr, Russ Cerlo and Larry Playfair Tuesday were followed by question and answer periods. A slide program included the estimated cost of the proposed additions as: field house, $1,916,250 plus elevated running track allowances, baseboard and score boards, $325,000; ice rink, $2,394,000; soccer field, $1,948,000; indoor pool, $1,200,000; other expenses, $950,000, or a total of $8,733,250. A leaflet distributed at the meetings noted a second floor mezzanine would be designed to permit viewing of all activities taking place within the complex and that programs would be geared for everyone - seniors, adults, youth and children. It also offered suggestions for tax deducted donations to support the proposed center, ranging from $100 to $100,000, listed as memberships in a Corporate Foundation Club. GI School Board Meetings: Monday, June 10: • Regular Board of Education meeting, 7 p.m., High School Town board approves cellular antenna installation CELLULAR One, a Rochester company, was granted permission to install an antenna and telephone discs on top of the town water tower on Carl Road. The Town Board Monday also approved issuing a special use permit to allow the work to proceed. The board April 15 tabled the company's request, following a public hearing when an Last River Road resident questioned the equipment's effect on the health of nearby residents. Approval was granted Monday after Supervisor James Pax reported the town had "received and reviewed" reports from Dr. Thomas Ely, a Vale University research scientist, and Dr. Marvin Ziskin, director of Temple University School of Medicine, testifying that the installation would "not pose any risk to human health." "This matter has been fully investigated," Pax said. "And after due consideration, I would entertain a motion to grant Cellular One a special use permit - and site plan approval for the project." The board in other action: • Approved creation of Lighting District No. 29 in Woodstream Meadows subdivision. • Agreed to advertise for bids May 24, to be opened June 12, on equipment for the Fairview playground. • Noted the town has received a $57,000 grant from the U.S. Dept. of Housing Development for installing handicapped sidewalk curb ramps through the county Block Grant Consortium. • Appointed Joan Droit, Joanne Bloomfield, Robert Stahl and Dave Williams to the Cable Advisory Board and Deborah Van Leaven, Judy Martlneck and Carmen Pena to the Drug Prevention Commission. • Awarded contracts for four drainage projects to low bidders Great Lakes Paving and Contracting Corp, $4,306.50; the same company $2,977.50; Knab Bros.
