C. Church parish. Groundbreaking for the new church is scheduled for the spring of 1998 with completion anticipated for Easter of 1999. MEK Town Board approves justice court fund change LEGISLATION proposed by die State Comptroller's office, titled "Administrative Reform Justice Court Fund" (Senate Bill 5-7379) won the approve of the Island Town Board Monday. A resolution presented by Supervisor Jim Pax and approved by the board, notes, in part, that the bill "seeks to streamline the reporting and distribution of funds collected by town justices." It further points out the bill will allow justices to remit direcUy to the town its share monthly (as opposed to quarterly at present) "and thereby improves cash flow and interest earnings." The board in other action: • Agreed to employ William Holcomb Associates, Inc. at a cost of $5,000 to implement recommendations of an assistance service project, including a review of job descriptions and compensation study for use in evaluating the equitable compensation of town employees. • Received with regret ilu resignations of George James and Gary Douglas DeLong from the Recreation Advisory Board and appointed Michael Dowd and Eric Raepple to replace them. • Granted a temporary certificate of occupancy lo Fujisawa USA, Inc., Staley Road, to occupy its new building prior to completion of landscaping and paving, noting the company has submitted performance bonds for the items. • Approved by resolution permission for the Highway Department to install four-way stop signs at Whitctail and Woodstream Roads in Woodstream Meadows subdivision. • Agreed to advertise for a parttime dog control officer to replace Peter Olrogge who was granted a leave of absence. • Denied a request for a special use permit to allow harboring one horse at 2462 Stony Point Road based on complaints of neighbors. Two days left to fish free THE STATE Department of Environmental Conservation is granting permission for state residents to fish without a license June 29 and 30, not June 19 as inadvertently announced in last week's Dispatch. The free periods wiTl allow firsttime fishermen to try out the sport before they spend the money to obtain the necessary stale fishing license. Town Clerk Nancy J. Samrany explained ibis week. ' Tops plan discussed at town workshop TOPS MARKET'S plans for greatly expanding its Grand Island operation on the Boulevard received input not only from the Town and Planning boards but Island departments including engineering and legal at a workshop meeting Tuesday in the Town Hall. The Recreation Advisory Board was also represented. At the hour-long session, all involved expressed their views and recommendations to Tops officials who in turn explained the market's point of view. Town planners at a previous meeting recommended a more extensive parking area and improved landscaping be considered and questioned proposed access and exit for the development in the current plan. They were again an active part of Monday's discussion attended by 22 people, including a number of interested residents. Tops' current engineering report on the project includes a traffic analysis and wetland mitigation. Rezoning will also be necessary for part of the property. The new store is expected to add about 220 jobs to the 145 positions in the present building. Tops officials said when they announced the company's plan to build a 67,000 square reet Snper Center to i the current market The meeting was chaired by Supervisor Jim Pax. MEK Road race reset for July 4 THE ANNUAL road race previously scheduled in Veterans Park on July 3 will instead take place on the traditional route along Grand Island Boulevard July 4 prior to the parade. Delayed construction of the road in the park resulted in the Town Board, by resolution, changing the date to Independence Day, Supervisor James 11. Pax said at Monday's Town Board meeting. MEK McBride moving up the dial by Michele Ramstetter RADIO TALK show host Dan Mcßride will relocate his popular program "Around the Town" as of July 5. Originally beard during the lunch hour on WJJL, 1440 AM, the locally-flavored program will move to the morning drive slot of 6-8 am. on WHLD, 1270 AM. A former broadcaster, Mcßride is a 28-year resident of Grand Island. In addition to his radio show, be runs an ad agency, Mcßride Media on Grand Island Boulevard. Mcßride said the new show will be called "Koffee Kibitz" and will feature music, talk, and "radio the way it used to be." Broadcasting from "somewhere on Grand Island," Mcßride said the show will continue to focus on happenings on Grand Island, in the Tonawandas, Riverside and Niagara Falls. Band concerts begin Tuesday THE BARROOM Buzzards will present a program of Dixieland jazz at the first town band concert of the season 7 pm. Tuesday at the gazebo next to the Town Hall. Rain date is June 29. Also scheduled are: July 9, the Fiddlesticks; July 16, Sophisticated Swing by Ben Bernle; July 23, Creek Bend; July 30, Sikora Post American Legion Band. And, August 6, Ramblin' Lou's Family Band; August 13, Grand Island Community Band; and August 20, Buffalo Zew Review (fiddlers). MEK
