In other words, government can help make the "American dream" a reality. Turning to government is still an uncomfortable alternative for many people though who are distrustful of or disillusioned with the government. However, Bradley continually attempted to soften the image of government with the sincerity and integrity he displayed during his speech. In a direct address to Canisius College, Bradley intoned that "in addition to honing the intellect, you hope students have the capacity to see, feel, give." He saw college as a place that could instill positive values in students, for as he observed, "values determine how we use power." In response to an impassioned question about the disillusionment of the American voter with politicians during the question and answer period, Bradley coolly conceded that "money distorts democracy." It has gotten so bad that money determines not Shane Hurd catches the interception and the heart of the team as the GrifTs have been steamrolling to a perfect 5-0 record. Throughout the evening, Bradley exhibited the qualities that have allowed him to excel as an Olympian, a Rhodes scholar, an NBA player, a politician and an author. Congressman John LaFalce warmly introduced Bradley to the half-filled Cultural Center. Bradley started off by saying that "We Americans today have arrived at a crossroads," meaning that we have to decide how best to use the incredible technology afforded us. Possibly hinting that we have not yet done so, a short while later he recounted what he sees as the message of America: "If you work hard enough, you can get ahead economically," and argued that "Today, most Americans doubt this basic precept." With this being the case, he asked, 'Where can an individual turn to for help?" His answer was the government. He point Griffs playing smash-mouth ball!
