For several months, the Carl and Carol Montante Cultural Center, formerly St. Vincent's Church which closed in 1993, has been undergoing a refurbishing and restoration. Some of the changes have been very visible, such as the cleaning of the exterior sandstone. One day the stonework was black, as it had been for many years because of the amount of pollution and soot from the city, and within a few days, Old St. Vincent's was white and clean as the day its stones were set in place. On Monday, Oct'. 23, the Montante Cultural Center was dedicated by Fr. Vincent marks from Fr. Cooke. After commenting on the cleaning of the interior mosaics and stonework as well as the exterior of the Cultural Center and the addition of sound panels to give the building better acoustics, Fr. Cooke explained, "We balance our desire for a superior acoustical building with the need to preserve the beauty of the interior of the center." Fr. Cooke explained the additions and changes that were made to the building. The Montantes then took the podium from Cooke and Carl Montante explained the events surrounding their involvement in the restoration of the Center.
