The earthquake, ss-hidi rocked | Buffalo and Western New York and sent many citizens into the street in their m'ght clothes, tn the early rooming of September Sth ss-as deteaed hs* the seismo¬ graph l:tfre at the allege. Dr. Austin V. McTigue, professor of {^s-$tcs and mathematics esti¬ mated from the recordings that the center of this tremor was lo¬ cated at a p<»nt approximately 293 miles from Buffalo. CoUec- tise data from the seismological stations shosv that it occurred at a point near Cornwall, Quebec, in a northeasaerly direction from Buffalo.
Although the shod^ wa» only one of nsedium strength, the seis- nMigjaph recorded the reflected rays for alintt»c an hour. The original disturbance caused the stylus to sssnng in an arch of about se\-en inches on twse instru- romt, and it went off the record otn the nwrc sensitive one.
A later earth tremor was re¬ ported MtMiday, September 12th. ITve shock had its center some 9200 miles away, probably tn tlw Dutch East Indies.
