Peter Gust Economou food service industry throughout his long career, and has dined with aristocracy and royalty. "I gave this gift because Buffalo made me," said Economou, still active in his 90's. "I wanted to give something back." Rev. James M. Demske, S.J., College president, in announcing the gift, praised Economou's interest in education and dedication to young people. Cochrane (English) — "Addiction and Recovery in the Fiction of John Cheever and Raymond Carver" Dr. S. Chidambaram (biology) — "Carcinogens and Mutagens in Niagara River Bullheads" The following are the recipients of the Faculty Fellowship Awards for the summer of 1987 and their intended projects: Rev. James M. Demske, S.J., College president, stated in a College memorandum, "The Faculty Fellowship Program is a recognition of the outstanding talents available on our Canisius College faculty, and is also meant to encourage further scholarly achievement." every year. However, if a faculty member becomes a recipient of the award, he or she must wait three years before submitting another proposal. Once receiving these proposals, the committee spends a year reviewing them. Jerome L. Neuner, associate vice president for academic affairs, said the review is "very challenging and rigorous." He also stated that Every year a number of faculty members submit proposals to the Committee on Faculty Research and Publication. These proposals contain detailed descriptions on the type of research each professor would like to perform. The research involves a particular topic related to the course the professor teaches. by Sabrina Lucente Faculty members at Canisius are encouraged to do special research in their professions through the Faculty Fellowship Program. The Fellowship Program allows the faculty to not only develop themselves, but also to pass on this newly-acquired knowledge to the other faculty members and students at Canisius. The 10 recipients of the Faculty Fellowship Awards must spend eight weeks in the summer working on their projects. (Once the recipients have concluded their work, they must report back to Canisius on what they have accomplished during their period of research. Three alternates are chosen in case one of the recipients has received a grant from an organization the recipient works for or the federal government. The recipient must decline, and the next candidate is given the award. Faculty members can submit proposals After the reviewing process has been completed, 10 faculty members are chosen. Each member receives $3500. This amount has been increased from last year because it is considered to be taxable income. USA President Angelo "We do have a number," said Franz, acknowledging there will be an increase. He declined, however, to reveal the exact amount or estimate the tuition hike pending Tuesday's student senate meeting. An as-yet undisclosed tuition increase for the 1987-88 academic year will be officially announced at Tuesday's meeting of the Undergraduate Student Association Senate, Dr. Laurence W. Franz, vice president for business and finance and College treasurer, said Tuesday. by Kevin Saville Buscemi said the student senate meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the Student Center Auditorium. Next year's hike will mark the 12th consecutive year tuition has increased at Canisius. Tuition for this academic year was $5,700. "The whole budget will be presented Tuesday," he said. "Dr. Franz, Fr. Ryan (Edmund G., executive vice president for academic affairs) and Mrs. Levey (Lillian M., vice president for student affairs) will be there to answer any questions students may have."
