Referendum indicates non-smoking lounge USA vice president calls vote 'good scientific tool' This date coincides with a meeting of the Board of Trustees, who will ultimately hire the new President.The Search Committee for a new President of Canisius College has imposed upon themselves a deadline of May 3, 1993, according to Rev. James Hennessey, SJ., rector of the Jesuit Community. According to Fr. Hennessey, the committee has identified nine individuals as potential candidates for the position. "Members [of the Search Committee] have been contacting them [the candidates] by phone and checking their references."" We know that May 3 is a shortleash. We actually have until June 30 [to find the next president!." From the list of nine, the committee hopes to narrow the list of candidates to three suitable candidates to present to the Board of Trustees at their meeting on May 3. "We are still getting resumes. There are a few who are still on the fence," Fr. Hennessey said. by Aimee Carrier Griffin News Reporter The Undergraduate Student Association (USA) inquiry into the issue of the Old Main Lounge will soon come to a close. On Feb. 10 and 11, a referendum was set before the students of Canisius College which asked whether the Old Main Lounge should be made completely non-smoking or remain an area where smoking is allowed. Dean search narrowed The search committee for the new Dean of Arts and Sciences has made cuts in the original candidate list of 52. The 13 candidates remaining are presently being called for telephone interviews, and the committee will meet on Monday to narrow the list down to four or five candidates. The finalists will be invited to the College for personal interviews, and at that time their names will be made public. When asked what actions will be made once the USA had submitted its recommendation, Miller stated, "I don't havea time frame in mind. I would have preferred to do something last fall."
