Commeford by a student center, across the hall from the office of student activities. Any student at Canisius is eligible for selection and can apply, Blake said. Senate would like to become more involved in the operation of clubs on campus according to McCarthy. She feels that too often in the past the Senate disperses the funds to clubs and loses touch. She and Blake agree that Senate should become more narrow margin. Blake will be responsible for overseeing the finance committee, who distributes funds to all of the student clubs and organizations on campus. Sroka, Professor of English, received the prestigious Kenneth L. Koessler, '29 Distinguished Faculty Award at presented by the Canisius College Office of Alumni Relations, is given out annually to a full-time faculty member of at least three years at Canisius who fosters "excellence in teaching, concern for students, scholarship and service to the College." The camp was originally opened in 1988 to relieve overcrowded prisons in the West Bank. The camp itself was a response to the first Palestinian uprising that occurred from 1987 to 1993. The camp became known as Ansar III to the Palestinians, after prisons ran by Israeli's in southern Lebanon and Gaza. Since then the prison had been expanded five times. Prisoners are kept in military tents, which are not able to withstand the harsh environment of the desert. He highlighted the fact that he is "especially grateful" to Professor of English, Dr. E. Roger Stephenson, and Schroeder, from both of whom he learned "what it means to bring teaching excellence" into the classroom. Sroka also said his students deserve much credit. Koessler served as the Chair of the Board of Trustees and Head of the Faculty Welfare Committee at Canisius. The award is made possible by generous gifts that were dedicated in the memory of Koessler to set up an endowment for the award, which the recipient with a stipend. April 26. 2002 Senate election results decided E-board to improve communications By Eric DuVall Managing Editor David Hill News Reporter Results for this year's Student Senate elections were announced in the lobby of the Richard E. Winter '42 Student Center late yesterday afternoon by Brian Smith, Director of f Student Activities. The new President is Katie McCarthy. McCarthy is currently a junior elementary education major. She beat Clark Banach, also a junior. "I'm very excited. I'm looking forward to building on the success of last year and furthering the respectability that last year's e-board established," McCarthy said. The Vice Presidential race was won by sophomore Tony Maggiotto. Maggiotto was the Vice President of Business and Finance last year. He defeated Jose Palma, Jr. Maggiotto has been involved with the senate for both of his years at Canisius. "We need to start working with the clubs.
