Katie and Catherine are Wellness Scholars, a program and scholarship that requires between 20 and 30 hours of community service. They began last year after brainstorming possible service projects with a clothing drive. They washed clothes and cut up the fabric, using it for the quilts. Last year they completed three quilts and donated them to local shelters. Last year Chartwell's was the recipient of a New York State Award for excelling in their 'Quest to Hire People with Disabilities.' Out of a staff of 45 full time Chartwells workers, 16 to 18 at a given time, have disabilities. Western New York, Chartwell's has recruited employees from Heritage Lakeshore Vocational, the Emerson School, the Vietnam Veterans Administration, and the Buffalo Public Schools. Chartwells has been involved in aiding people with disabilities for the past several years. In This partnership will go into effect February 22, with a public signing between William J. Mariani (President of ECC), Linda Rand (Vocational Trainer CBSE Program), Thomas Vitale (Supervisor of the CBSE Program), and Steve Mackin (Production and Safety Director). Special to News Specifically, students enrolled in education courses at the College will work with teachers at the Hamlin Park School to provide tutorial services, mentoring, test preparation, physical education and computer instruction to students in grades pre-K through 8. Canisius, the Buffalo Partnership Initiative and the Buffalo Board of Education announce the formation of a new partnership between the College and School # 74 that will provide students at both institutions with outstanding educational opportunities.
