FOOTBALL BANQUET CLIMAXES HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL SEASON
"Steve" Swaarbadri, Griffin End, Elected Captain for '34 Sea¬ son; Gavin Most Valuable Player
SPEAKERS LAUD TEAM
The Canisius College Alumni "rallied round and swelled the sound" at the merriest football ban¬ quet in many years at the Hotel Buffalo, two weeks ago last Monday night- The '33 Griffin eleven was honored by a generous gathering of good fellows and toasted by excellent speakers for their valiant work dur¬ ing the past season.
Stephen Szczerbacki, the quiet but hard playing end from Dunkirk, was fittingly chosen by the team in an unanimous vote as its next season's leader. The fiery and versatile Fran¬ cis "Curly" Gavin was selected as the most valuable player of the '33 eleven.
The affair was more of a party than a banquet, containing all the color of a football game with the band and the cheerleaders, and a hall packed full of cheering Canisius men, who for the first time in five years were able to tell the world in no un¬ certain terms that they had a real football team, and a real coach. The season's record ot six games won, one lost, and one titd gave the speakers plenty to talk about, and the ban¬ queters plenty to enthuse about, and they neither hesitated nor stopped from beginning to end.
If the assemblage was :roud of this year's team, taking the words of Wm. P. "Hiker" Joy, main speaker of the evening, they have a lot to look forward to, for he promised them that 1934 would be a bigger and better season. Going back to the beginning of the season, he told how he took z badly demoralized team, a team that hadn't won a game on its own field in two years, and welded it into a powerful, high-scoring grid¬ iron combination. He attributed

N^ar** Prom will be run on a differ¬ ent basis from those in the past. A definite theme will be followed in the entertainment, favors and decor¬ ations. The dinners have bct.i elim¬ inated because in the past the cost en¬ tailed by their preparation has pre¬
vented the engagement of a really first-class orchestra.
To supplant the dinner committee an innovations committee has been appointed, whose duty it will be to invent novel and interesting plans for entertainment as well as for the stag¬ ing of the Promenade.
The orchestra has not as yet been
definitely selected but the music will
be supplied by a nationally known
orchestra. Every effort is being made
