The convention sits as two houses, the House of Bishops and the House of Deputies, each having a veto upon the other. Its primary object is to make laws for the Protestant Episcopal church. Legislation takes the form of canons which are operative at once, and amendments of the constitution wich require action by two successive conventions. The House of Bishops tills vacancies in the missionary episcopate with the concurrence of the lower house. Miss Jones has had unusual success during her two years of service here, especially in building up the girls' work, and she will be missed by the many girls with whom she has come into contact as well as many other friends. There are also ten committees or commissions of the House of Bishops. In addition the joint commissions and committees of the two houses number thirty six. THE Firman (I& Company There's a twinkle of frost in the air, it is felt in each breath that we take; it is seen in the yellowing forests that border the streams and the lake. It is seen in the low-lying valley, where the water cress long has held sway; it glistens like millions ot diamonds, when the sun turns the night into day. Most charming of all the four seasons, and the time when the wirld is most fair, are the very first days of old Autumn, when the frost is first telt in the air. 'Tis then that the orchards are bending 'neath the burden of fruit on the trees, 'tis then we take pride in Chautauqua, and drink deep of each frost tainted breeze. We may travel the wide world forever, where the scenes of rare beauty beguile, but there's none quite so fair as Chautauqua—no other that's quite so worth while. 'Tis a land of real beauty and pleasure.where the sweetest of fairies might lurk, where the old world is still in the making, and strong men are inspired for their work. We thank Thee, oh god of the harvests, for the blessings we find on each hand; we will thank Thee and praise The forever, that our lot has been cast in this land. - Jamestown Journal. Corner Drug Store Among the important subjects now under consideration by these bodies are the relation of the Episcopal church to other Christian communions; revision and enrichment of the prayer book; Christiap education; the divorce problem; missionary organization; the election of a bishop for negroes in the United States; and an adequate pension system for the clergy.
