the several taxes on sale imposed by existing laws except such as arr paid by stamps and the tax on sales leai tobacco manufactured tobacco snuff for eigu and domtstio cigars distilled spirits and wine it also repeals the taxes on articles nameti in schedule a special taxes on boats bargts and hats on legacies successions paasports and gross receipts said repeal t take effect the tirst of next october the committee also propose to btrike out all sections if the house bill relating t stamps thereby leaving in full force th provisions of existing laws relatingto stam taxes with the exception that stamp taxes osi promissory notes for a less sum thai liki and on receipts for any sum and oi canoed and preserved fish are to be re pealed from the first of next october anri do stamp shall be n-quired upon transfer m alignment of mortgage except on sal thereof or when transferred or assigned a collateral security the bill provides also that matches ciga lights and wax tapers may be removed ton on sawed dreaaed or polish ed marble slabs and marble paving tiles 30 per cent ad valorem and twenty-fiveeent r square foot not exceeding two inches in thickness and if thicker and not exoeed ing sixiaenches tencentafadditional per foot the bill provides that for two years from the passage machinery designed nly for steam towage on canals not now naanufac tared in the united states may be imported by any state or person duly authorized by the legislators of any state free of doty the date on which the provisions relating to the tarriff take effect designated as ooto bet ist 1870 ths following is the amen ded motion section and be it further enacted that all goods wares and merchandize re maining in bonded warehouses on the day and year of this action shall take effect and npoa the tax bill they reduce the amount t three per cent leaving the examption at in the present law at f 1000 they will take up the national bank bill at their next meeting they are decidedly opposed to the measure amendments to tax bill the following are the amendments pro posed by the committee on finance to tin house bill for the reduction of taxation l'hcv strike out the tirst elevea sections of the bill being all which provide for the re tention of the various special taxes includ ing the tax on bankers rectifiers dealers ii tobacco lotteries pawporti etc and pro vide for the repeal of all special taxet whatever from may 1 1871 excepting the special tax on brewers and the tax on dis tilled spirits and tobacco the bill report ed also provides for the repeal on the ist of next october of the several taxes on sale imposed by existing laws except such as arr paid by stamps and the tax on sales leai tobacco manufactured tobacco snuff for eigu and domtstio cigars distilled spirits and wine it also repeals the taxes on articles nameti in schedule a special taxes on boats bargts and hats on legacies successions paasports and gross receipts said repeal t take effect the tirst of next october the committee also propose to btrike out all sections if the house bill relating t stamps thereby leaving in full force th provisions of existing laws relatingto stam taxes with the exception that stamp taxes osi promissory notes for a less sum thai liki and on receipts for any sum and oi canoed and preserved fish are to be re pealed from the first of next october anri do stamp shall be n-quired upon transfer m alignment of mortgage except on sal thereof or when transferred or assigned a collateral security the bill provides also that matches ciga lights and wax tapers may be removed imported by any state or person duly authorized by the legislators of any state free of doty the date on which the provisions relating to the tarriff take effect designated as ooto bet ist 1870 ths
