Scope and Content
This collection contains materials about Percy I. Bugbee, who was a principal at the Oneonta Normal School. Included in this collection are articles, correspondence, photographs, and other ephemera related to Bugbee. The collection is arranged into three series.
Series 1: Record Box #3/2, Percy I. Bugbee (1898-1961)
Series 2: Photographs (1923, also undated)
Series 3: Oversize and Memorabilia (1900-1925)
Percy I. Bugbee was born in Colton, NY in 1858. He went to school in Canton, NY and after graduating high school he enrolled in St. Lawrence University. He received his bachelor of arts degree in 1879. He also received his masters and doctoral degrees from the same institution. He started teaching in 1875 while he was still in school. After he graduated he became a principal of schools at Herman and then at Colton. In 1880, he became principal of Naples academy for four years. He was married to Ida M. Farmes in 1883. He then went on to be the principal at Newark for five years. He started teaching mathematics at Oneonta Normal School in 1889 when it opened. He became principal in 1898 and continued until he retired in 1933. He died two years later in 1935.
