RENSSELAER WAKD Although not asking nor expecting the high honor of being nominated to represent the people in this 2nd assembly district, is a man of superior qualifications for this position of trust. He has for many years served the people of this town in official capacities, and if elected we know ho would make a most efficient member. His own party to a man, as well as a host of Democratic friends should come forward ami give Mr. "»\ ai d a hearty support. That lio will reeeive a large vote from this end of tho county is undoubted. Dedicating the Dickersonville M. E. Church. Wo inesday a larffc crowd of people assembled In the Dickersonvillo SI. E. chorch when said church, which has boen repaired to tbe amount of $1,800, was rededicated. Hervices opened at 11 A.M. by Kev. A. D. Wilbur, D. D., presiding elder, followed with a song by the choir, reading of the l'Jlst and 12'Jnd Psalms by Kov. D. W. C. Huntington, L>. 1)., and another sung by the choir; then a sortnou by Dr. Huntington.who chose 1 Cor. 3rd oh. and 16th v. for his test. His remarks wer vary able. R»t. Mr. Marjott, pastor, made a financial report show ing the amount of money raised and expended, and a balance of $478 to be met. Dr. Huntington proceoded to raise £500, assisted by Revs. Maryott and Pickard, iu which ho succeed ed, many donatiug liberally, among whom were the Moore and Poole families. Old | Father Town send, a venerable old gentleman, subscribed a dollar for each of bis doi soendants, who are legion. All with light , hearts aud beaming countenances repaired I to tbe school house where they were enter- I tainod with refreshments by tbe ladies of I tho society, in a most generous and hospitable manner. Oyiter Fete at Porter Centre, j On Friday evening last there assembled ! in Porter Centre church a vjrv social and vivacious company of young people, from , Hanaomville, 1> oung«town ami the surrounding couutry, the occasion being au oyster f»a*t, held under the auspices of the young er members of the society of the aforesaid ctiurch. Considering that the weather dur ing 'he previous twelve hours had been raw, cold and rainy, aud that tiie night was exceedingly dark, the attendance «us very large, and financially the committee did even better th in they anticipated under favorable weather, & tho net receipt! being about {97. For the small sum of 35 cents each, the company were served iu a most gracious manner with quantum fufflrit of oysters, be side* various kinds of cake, &c., and, judg iug from the ravenous manner in which i they indulged, we should say everything i was relished. The table was set threo tunes j and at each was entirely surrounded. Socially, Kansouiville and Porter Centre young peo; le cannot be excelled in western New York. They seem to know just how | to spend the time pleasautly aud profitably. \ White the company were waiting for sup j per the Missoa Mary L. Van Duseu, Cairit-, ltausom, Mary (Irace White and Marion A. i Graves, assisted by the Kev. C. A. Wood j worth and others, fuvored them with sever al selections of music, which were heartilj applauded. Tli so young ladles all have line voices. Afterward Miss Graves sang two very beautiful solos. Next Tuesday is election day, and a large vote should be polled iu the towu of Porter; it should be made to reach 500, the number requisite for dividing tho town into two election districts. There is no doubt of there being that munv voters in tho town, for a osreful canvas of school district No. 1 shows nearly 150, and this district is estimated to contain a little over one fourth of tho population of the town. The advantages of having two election districts have beon ! stated through tho c lumns of tbe Nkws on j several previous occasions, and there is no need of further ellucidation oil that point See to it that a large vote is polled. We believe it to be the sacred duty of every citizen to vote; it is a duty not only to himself, but to his country, his state, his county, his town. No man lias a right to shirk that duty. All are members ol tbe O. A, H„ and have seen and endured hard service, hut escaiied injury of a character to entitle them to a pension, accord ing to the present law. Tbe ball was again faced and the struggle renewed, both sides pluy ing keener | and with a dotermii atiou to win, but in 22 minutes R Reid. by somo very clever manoeuvring and dodilng, carried tbe ball to Virgil's goal and kicked it through, winning the second game for Niagara. After a few minutes rest play again commenced, aud now the Virgil team showed their superior "staying" powers, and after some very lively kiciang R. F. Ball cleverly put the leather through Niagara's goal, and won the third gatnofor Virgil in 20 minutes. Time was then called and tbe match decided in favor of Niagar a by two games to one.
