Capital District Library Council For Reference And Research Resources
Newsletter No. 2
Membership
The membership of the Cpital District Library Council now includes 19 institutions, the latest member bing the Verterans Administrarion Hospital in Albany. Two additional applications are pending, one from the WAtervliet Arsenal and the other form the Research Foundation Library of the State University of New York. The complete list of the member institutions is appended to this newsletter.
The Courier Service
Since the Capital District Library Council courier service was inaugurated on May 1, 1967, by contract with the United Interlibrary Delivery Service, some 10,504 items have been transported for a weekly average of 875 items; from May 1 to June 30, the weekly average was 931 items.
At their meeting on June 12, 1967, the Trustees fo the Council passed two measures which, under certian circumstances, permit the courier service to be utilized by libraries which are not members of the Council. Firstly, they rejected an application for membership from the Graduate School of Public Affairs, Albany, on the grounds that this school is an itegral part of the State University of New York at Albany and that to grant the membership would, in effect, give the State University two votes in the Council. However, because it is located some distance for the SUNY campus and in the interest of good service to the member institutions, the Trustees voted to provided the courier service to the Graduate School of Public Affairs at cost; that is to say, the State University of New York at Albany would pay, in addition to its membership, the cost for the courier service to the Graduate School fo Public Affairs. Secondly, the Trustees voted to permit the courier to transport books for business and corporation libraries at a monthly fee of $10.00, provided the books are delivered to and picked up at hte library of the nearest or most convenient member institution. The three General Electric research libraries in Schenectady have agreed to these procedures; but, I must drew your attention to the fact that the lending policies of these three librarie sare determined by the General Electric management
