At a meeting called for the purpose of organizing a board of health for the town of Clifton Park on the 26th day of May 1855 at the house Samuel Groom. Present William L. Potter N.B. Prentis and J.W. Van Vranken Justices of the Peace the meeting was organized by appointing [struck out: J.W. Van Vranken] N.B. Prentis chairman and J.W. Van Vranken clerk. Whereas a certain contagious disease has broken out in said town to wit: the Small Pox and whereas it being necessary in the opinion of this board that some steps be taken to prevent its spread among the inhabitants of said town; Therefore be resolved that all persons be prohibited from visiting the family of Nicholas Briggs a colored man residing in said town and in whose family the Small Pox now exists. And that no person of said family be permitted to go near the dwelling or tenement or out house of any other inhabitant or persons occupying the lane, except the Health Officer appointed by this Board and persons employed by him. Resolved that Lorenzo H. Sprague be and is hereby appointed Such Health Officer
All persons violating any of the above provisions will be subject to a fine not exceeding 500 dollars or imprisonment in the county jail not exceeding six months.
