Scope and Content Note

Papers of William G. Hall, Jr., of Dutch Valley Farm, Pittsfield, Otsego County, N.Y., consist primarily of "day books" documenting daily activities, personal expenses, and the weather. Hall's farm work included growing oats, corn, and potatoes, and transporting grains to/from a local mill. He also raised livestock such as cattle, sheep, and hogs. The "day books" frequently mention visits to the village store, as well as transporting logs for sawing or for use at his home. The "Account Books of Work" contain a record of work performed by various individuals. Additional material includes Pittsfield town records, correspondence, school notebooks, poems/songs, financial documents, Nathan Burch family genealogy, and brochures.


Biographical/Historical Note

William G. Hall, Jr., born January 3, 1815, was a farmer, and town clerk of Pittsfield, N.Y. from at least 1843 to 1844.
