This is the only medieval bridge in England with houses upon it, and it dates back to 1160. The gloomy spot beneath it was always called "Murder Hole" for many gruesome reasons, but is now "Glory Hole" for no reason at all. Lincoln is the most quaintly picturesque town so far, with the reputation of having the steepest inhabited street in the country. It is called "Steep Hill" very justly and it set me panting from the bottom way past the top.
