The Clifton Park-Halfmoon Library serves a population of approximately 56,000 in the towns of Clifton Park and Halfmoon. The mission of the Library’s Local History Room is to collect, preserve, and make accessible materials that document all years of the history of the two towns.
In addition to artifacts, reference books, and a clippings file, we also hold two large archival collections on deposit: the Pre-Shenendehowa Schools Collection and the Town of Clifton Park History Collection. We also maintain the Library’s own archival collection.

Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library Sub-collections:
Pre-Shenendehowa Schools Collection
Includes historic photographs of schoolhouses located in Clifton Park and Halfmoon. The physical collection, housed in the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library’s Local History Room, contains documents from the 22 small schools in the surrounding area that were consolidated into the Shenendehowa Central School District in 1950 and also includes minutes, annual reports, grade books, letters, school census forms, books, and other documents. The bulk of the collection dates from 1910 to 1952, with the earliest document dated 1765.
Town of Clifton Park History Collection
This collection includes photographs of Clifton Park and Halfmoon dating back to 1711, offering a glimpse into early life along the Erie Canal. Also included are Justice of the Peace records and postcards obtained by the unofficial Clifton Park town historian from the 1940s to 1970s, Howard Becker. The physical collection is located in the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library’s Local History Room and also includes account books, scrapbooks, letters, diaries, wills, and deeds. The library continues to receive materials which are processed and added to the collection, and items from the physical collection will be periodically digitized and made accessible through New York Heritage.
Town of Halfmoon Historian’s Collection
Includes photographs of the Town of Halfmoon dating back to the late 1800s. The physical Town of Halfmoon Historian’s Collection is housed in several places. The Historical Society houses artifacts, photographs and genealogies. The Halfmoon Town Hall houses the Historian’s office and original documents such as family papers, photographs, and Town records. The period covered by these materials ranges from the late nineteenth to the late twentieth century. Most of the earlier documents were lost in a fire.
