Lamont was in President Cleveland's cabinet from 1893 to 1897. Lamont was personal secretary for Cleveland when he was governor of New York State. He also went to Washington as President Cleveland's personal secretary during Cleveland's first term from 1885 to 1889. Lamont Library in McGraw was Daniel's boyhood home.
