Actually my great-grand uncle was named John Augustus Brown. When he enlisted he was enlisted as Augustus J. Brown, (I believe it was because there already was a John Brown with the regiment). I have copies of some of his service records and the first few show his name as Augustus J. Brown and a later one shows his name as Augustus T. Brown. His younger brother (also a great-grand uncle) served with 176th NY Inf. You also have him in your database. Both was born in or near Riverhead, NY and both are buried in Riverhead, NY.
