Walton probably drew this image of Schuyler's Store as a trade card. The business was located on North Aurora Street in Ithaca, between Owego Street (now State/Martin Luther King Jr.) and Seneca Street. By 1838, Walton had become a well established artist in the Ithaca area. His work was in demand by businesses and local residents alike.
This tidy drawing of Schuyler's Store exhibits Walton's usual tight and exacting line work backed by carefully modeled shading. With a few Ithacans milling about the street and the shop keeper inside to populate the scene, Walton takes care to display the store's wares in a neat and organized fashion. The likely age darkened paper exhibits a number of creases and folds. Otherwise, it appears undamaged. 10" X 10".
