Educational television programs for a large area in eastern NY and Western Mass. And VT come a step closer as group above signs application for a Board of Regents charter to present them an hour a day, five days a week over General Electric Television station WRGB. It is the first such in the country. Robert B. Hanna, left, GE manager of broadcasting opened the door for educational TV when he offered the hour from 10:30 a.m. Monday through Friday over WRGB, beginning in September. Hanna acted after the proposal of the New Tork State Board of Regents to establish ten educational television stations in the state was lost. The temporary State Commission on the use of television for education recommended against the proposed regents station but suggested more programs be established at regular hours on commercial stations. Hanna, who had suggested that such a step should be explored, offered the time and $2500 per year toward the salary of a full time producer to more than 100 area representatives of public, parochial, and private schools, colleges, state university extension services, other state agencies, libraries, museums, historical societies and volunteer groups. The offer was quickly accepted and a 17 man board of governors was named by area representatives to employ a full time television producer named by area representatives to employ a full time television producer effective July 1. Programs will begin in September with the resumption of school. Dr. Harry J. Linton, Schenectady superintendent of schools, shown signing the charter application, was designated president of the Mohawk-Hudson Council on Educational Television, Inc. Other officers who signed the application to incorporate the council are left to right, Secretary, Miss L. Marion Mosher, director library extension division, New York State Library; vice president, the very Rev. Bertrand J. Campbell, O.F. M. president of Siena College; and Treasure; Dr. Carter Davidson, president of Union College.
