corridor. Then, a scraam is
heard, a door slammed, the

hand comes out from a doorway

across a face or two. A loud

After a few minutes of

sink from which a lone hand
is trying to escape.

why they were aSSigned 10

AI most all agreed Ihat they
were placed there because
almost all the girls had reQUested
their roommates. As
Peg McAllister said, "They figured
il would lessen the blow
of being up here ~ we knew
our roommates:
The biggest problem has
been the stigma allached to
being a Medaille girL There
Is a conslant flow of IIIsitors
who either want 10 see where
"the nun hung herself: or
have heard slories and are
simply curious to see Ihe
floor. Many have asked to
see the rooms and comments
have ranged from 'Oh my
God you live In here?" to "Isn·t
il eerie?' to -It's neal-It's
cozy: And obviously there
were problems with the number
of stairs, sf)d the (act that
the rooms have Inleresting
-nooks and Clannies: Many
of the rooms can't be rear·
ranged.
By far the most prevalent
complaint voiced by the girls
is the lack of heat and hot
water. As Terry Llndsely
says, "We gel heat once a
day. in the morning: The
building has been particularly
damp and cold duei0 the recent

three showers has sufficient
